China-South Pacific Economic Relations

Ambassador Luamanuvae Mariner, on 26 June 2024, addressed the staff and students of Peking University, School of Economics, on Samoa and China’s bilateral relations, ongoing technical cooperation and development programs between the two countries, and the importance of a green BRI program for small island states, to address the challenges of climate change. Ambassador Mariner also highlighted the current global challenges and key aspects of the Chinese economy going forward.


The event was part of Peking University’s Lecture Series – on the Chinese Economy in the Ambassadors’ Eyes. Ambassador Mariner met with the Chairman of Peking University’s School Council, Mr Cui Jianhua, before the commencement of the event which was facilitated by Professor Qin Xuezheng, Vice Dean of the School of Economics. China’s Special Envoy to the Pacific Islands, Ambassador Qian Bo, and Solomon Islands Ambassador Salato also attended and offered remarks.
