Official visit to Beijing on 22 November 2023 by Samoa’s Speaker of Parliament, the Hon. Papali’i Li’o Taeu Masipa’u. The Honorable Speaker paid a courtesy call on H.E Zhao Leji, Chairman of the National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee at the Great Hall of the People. The two leaders acknowledged the strength of the bilateral relationship between the two countries and China’s ongoing support to Samoa’s economic development through technical cooperation programs in key sectors such as health, agriculture, and education.

Ambassador Mariner and fellow PIAG Ambassadors from Tonga, Federated States of Micronesia and PNG’s CDA attended the 4th July Independence reception at the United States Embassy in Beijing.  The US Ambassador to China, Nicholas Burns, during his official remarks recalled Thomas Jefferson’s words from 1776 –  “all men (and women) have certain inalienable rights which include life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”.   The Executive Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu, represented the Chinese Government at the official event.
