Ambassador Mariner and fellow PIAG Ambassadors from Tonga, Federated States of Micronesia and PNG’s CDA attended the 4th July Independence reception at the United States Embassy in Beijing. The US Ambassador to China, Nicholas Burns, during his official remarks recalled Thomas Jefferson’s words from 1776 – “all men (and women) have certain inalienable rights which include life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”. The Executive Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu, represented the Chinese Government at the official event.

Very good exchange of views with Spain’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, H.E. Rafael Dezcallar Mazarredo. Strengthening the relationship between the two countries through possible areas of technical cooperation and highlighting Samoa’s key priorities in areas such as climate change, tourism and renewable energy were discussed.
