Samoa's Prime Minister, Hon. Fiame Naomi Mataafa and members of her delegation met with the President of the People's Republic of China, President Xi Jinping on Tuesday, 26th November 2024.
At the meeting, President Xi Jinping noted that Samoa is one of the first Pacific Island Countries to establish diplomatic ties with China and described the China-Samoa relation as "a friendship based on mutual respect and mutual understanding". President Xi further noted that China supports Samoa in safeguarding its sovereignty and independence and will continue to provide assistance to Samoa in its economic and social development, trade, investment, agriculture and fisheries to achieve common development.
Hon. Fiame Naomi Mataafa reiterated Samoa's commitment to the "One China Policy" and noted Samoa's support towards the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative, the three initiatives proposed by President Xi.
